Stittsville Public School front entranceLocated at 40 Granite Ridge Drive, just north of Abbott Street in the eastern half of Stittsville, Stittsville Public School is a public elementary school offering the regular English and Early French Immersion programs from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5. The regular English program attendance area covers the eastern part of Stittsville. The attendance boundary for the Early French Immersion program extends further to cover the southeastern part of rural Goulbourn including Richmond, and the southwestern part of rural Nepean including Fallowfield village.

The attendance boundaries for Stittsville Public School are currently under review, and will change with the opening of a new elementary school for Stittsville in September 2011.  At present it is proposed that part of the Stittsville Public School attendance area, likely the area south of Abbott Street, will be directed to the new school at 111 Hartsmere Drive for the regular English and Early French Immersion programs, and that the Early French Immersion students currently coming from the Richmond and rural Nepean areas will also move to the new school.  Both Stittsville Public School and the new elementary school would become JK to Grade 6 schools.  A Middle French Immersion program (Grades 4 to 8) would be introduced at A. Lorne Cassidy, subject to enrolment.  Consultation on the proposed boundary changes is on-going, and full details of the current proposals are available   here. The Board will make its decision on the new attendance boundaries in November 2010, and will also decide whether and how to phase student moves to their new locations.

Stittsville Public School and play structureStittsville P.S. operates on a Balanced School Day schedule for Grades 1 to 5.  The students' day is organized into three larger blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, with two breaks for nutrition and recess (in late morning and early afternoon).  The Balanced School Day schedule provides more uninterrupted learning time for students and better opportunities for extracurricular activities during the two longer breaks

Originally constructed in 1947
as a two-room school located on Main Street, Stittsville P.S. grew through five additions between 1953 and 1967, and moved in September 2005 into a larger modern school building on Granite Ridge Drive.  The photo at lower-right is a view from the second-floor hall overlooking the library filled with guests attending the official opening of the new building on 17 November 2005.

Stittsville Public School library from upper levelOn completion of Grade 5 at Stittsville P.S., students are directed to Goulbourn M.S. for Grades 6 through 8 for the regular English and Early French Immersion programs. Students interested in the Middle French Immersion program may transfer to Katimavik E.S. in Kanata at Grade 4.
