Richmond Public School from the southLocated near the centre of Richmond, Richmond Public School is an elementary school offering the regular English program from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5, and the Middle French Immersion program for Grades 4 and 5. The attendance boundary for the regular English program covers the eastern part of rural Goulbourn and extends into the southwest part of rural Nepean.  For the Middle French Immersion program, the attendance boundary includes all of the English program boundary and also the rest of rural Goulbourn outside the immediate vicinity of Stittsville.

The attendance boundaries for Richmond Public School are currently under review, and will change with the opening of a new elementary school for Stittsville in September 2011.  At present there are no changes proposed for either the regular English program boundary or the Middle French Immersion program boundary for Richmond Public School.  Early French Immersion students from the Richmond area, who currently attend Stittsville Public School, would be moved to the new elementary school at 111 Hartsmere Drive in Stittsville.  Consultation on the proposed boundary changes is on-going, and full details of the current proposals are available   here. The Board will make its decision on the new attendance boundaries in November 2010, and will also decide whether and how to phase student moves to their new locations.

Richmond Public School play yardIn 2009-2010, Richmond Public School successfully introduced a Balanced School Day schedule for Grades 1 through 8, in which the day is organized into three large blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, with two breaks for nutrition and recess (in late morning and early afternoon).  Schools following a Balanced School Day schedule in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board have found it provides more uninterrupted learning time for students as well as better opportunities for extracurricular activities during the two longer breaks.  Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs do not follow the Balanced School Day schedule, and continue to be offered as half-day programs in the 2010-2011 school year.

Built in 1924, Richmond Public School has undergone many additions and renovations, most recently in 1997, and has a unique design blending modern amenities with the original building. The school has a long-standing tradition of community support and involvement, and has sometimes taken advantage of its proximity to South Carleton H.S. to involve senior high school students as volunteers in the school.

On completion of Grade 5 at Richmond Public School, students are directed to Goulbourn Middle School for Grades 6 though 8 for the regular English program.  When Middle French Immersion students complete Grade 5 at Richmond Public School, that program is expected to be phased in at Goulbourn Middle School.
