Zone 1 South Schools:Munster Elementary School
The attendance boundaries for Munster Elementary School are currently under review, but are not expected to change significantly with the opening of a new elementary school for Stittsville in September 2011. At present it is proposed that Munster Elementary School will remain a JK to Grade 5 school offering the regular English program, although no final decision has yet been made. Consultation on the proposed boundary changes is on-going, and full details of the current proposals are available here. The Board will make its decision on the new attendance boundaries in November 2010, and will also decide whether and how to phase student moves to their new locations. Munster E.S. operates on a Balanced School Day schedule for Grades 1 to 5. The students' day is organized into three larger blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, with two breaks for nutrition and recess (in late morning and early afternoon). The Balanced School Day schedule provides more uninterrupted learning time for students and better opportunities for extracurricular activities during the two longer breaks. Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs do not follow the Balanced School Day schedule, and continue to be offered as half-day programs for the 2010-2011 school year. Beginning in September 2011, Munster Elementary School will offer the new full-day Early Learning Program for Junior and Senior Kindergarten students. An extended-day childcare program may also be offered, if there is sufficient registration. Built in 1977, Munster Elementary School was located just around the corner from one of its predecessors; the 1890 stone S.S. No. 5 was closed in 1966, and unfortunately destroyed by fire a few years ago. Today's Munster Elementary School has helped to blend the suburban development in the village with a well-established farming community, for both education and community use. It is a bright, attractive school with a large playground. On completion of Grade 5 at Munster Elementary School, students are directed to Goulbourn Middle School for Grades 6 to 8 in the regular English program. Students interested in the Middle French Immersion program may transfer to Richmond Public School in Richmond at Grade 4. |
