The
character of education in the schools in Goulbourn, Rideau and West Carleton is
strongly rooted in our local communities, but our students also learn to see
themselves and their communities in relation to the world and world
issues. The picture below was painted in 2002 for Remembrance Day, by
students of Mrs. Levett and Mrs. Redmond at Stittsville Public School; it now
hangs in the Marc Léger library of Stittsville P.S. in its new home on Granite Ridge Drive
in Stittsville.

Education is important. In partnership with parents and the community, the school board must do its very best to ensure that every student learns, that programs are relevant and high in quality, that students have access to programs that meet their needs, and that every school is a good place for learning. This requires thoughtful attention to current education research and policy development; sound evaluation of student achievement, student needs, staff performance and program quality; and, in a time of significant fiscal constraint
imposed by the provincial funding formula for education, prudent fiscal management to ensure that needs are effectively met within the limits of available resources.
