Located near the centre of Kars, Kars
PS is a public elementary school offering regular English program for Junior Kindergarten, and the Early French Immersion program from Senior Kindergarten to Grade 5. The attendance boundary for Early French Immersion covers all of Rideau outside the immediate area of Manotick, and the southwestern part of the former
Township of Osgoode.
In
September 2006, Kars Public School had an enrolment of 227 students in Early
French Immersion, including its regular English junior kindergarten students.
Built in 1945 to serve Osgoode and Rideau Townships as a junior and senior continuation school, Kars P.S. still occupies its original three-story brick building, with a more recent addition. It shares a 10-acre property with Rideau Valley M.S.; some Rideau Valley students serve as peer helpers for the younger students at Kars.
On completion of Grade 5 at Kars P.S., students are directed to Rideau Valley M.S. for Grades 6 through 8 in the Early French Immersion program.
