Huntley Centennial Public School carved name stoneLocated in the village of Carp, Huntley Centennial is a public elementary school offering regular English and Early French Immersion programs from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. The attendance boundary for both programs covers most of the area of the former Huntley Township (except for a small area on the edge of Stittsville to the south) and the Marchurst Road area of rural Kanata.

Built in 1967, Canada's Centennial Year, Huntley Centennial Public School was built in wings around a central core of gymnasium and office areas. In 1975 another wing was constructed to serve Grades 7 and 8, and additional washroom facilities were completed in September 2000.  A 10-classroom addition with new kindergarten classrooms, a music room and a second gymnasium opened in September 2009. Huntley Centennial enjoys a large, well-equipped playground area, supplemented by access to nearby community recreation facilities including the W. Erskine Johnston arena.

Huntley Centennial follows a Balanced School Day schedule for Grades 1 through 8, in which the day is organized into three large blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, with two breaks for nutrition and recess (in late morning and early afternoon).  Schools following a Balanced School Day schedule in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board have found it provides more uninterrupted learning time for students as well as better opportunities for extracurricular activities during the two longer breaks.  Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs do not follow the Balanced School Day schedule, and continue to be offered as half-day programs in the 2010-2011 school year.

Huntley Centennial is fortunate to have an active and involved school council, which supports the school and its programs in a wide variety of ways through the extensive participation of parent and community volunteers.  Improvements to the school library have been a special focus for the school council.

Huntley Centennial Public School play area Huntley Centennial students have the option of entering the Middle French Immersion program at Stonecrest Elementary School in Grade 4.  Students who were in Grade 6 at Huntley Centennial in 2009-2010 have the option of entering the Late French Immersion program in Grade 7 at Stephen Leacock Public School in Kanata.  The Late French Immersion program is being phased out across the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, and this option was retained to serve students who had no opportunity to enter a Middle French Immersion program.  September 2010 will be the last year for entry into Late French Immersionn.

Students who complete Grade 8 at Huntley Centennial Public School will be directed to West Carleton Secondary School in Dunrobin for Grades 9 through 12 English and French Immersion programs. Special education students who have been identified as gifted may choose to attend the secondary gifted centre at Bell High School in Bells Corners.  Students may also apply to attend a specialized program such as a vocational program (Sir Guy Carleton S.S.), a fine arts program (Canterbury H.S.), or an International Baccalaureate program (Colonel By H.S.).
