Located in the centre of Kinburn, Fitzroy Centennial is a public elementary school offering the regular English program for Grades Junior Kindergarten to 8, and the Late French Immersion program for Grades 7 and 8. Its attendance boundary for the regular English program to Grade 6 covers most of the
former Fitzroy Township area of West Carleton excluding the easternmost part.
In addition, it receives students from Torbolton P.S. for Grades 7 and 8. The Late French Immersion program serves all of West Carleton Township, drawing students from Huntley Centennial, Stonecrest and Torbolton schools.
In
September 2006, Fitzroy Centennial P.S. had an enrolment of 248 students in the regular English and Late French Immersion
programs, including primary and junior students from the Fitzroy Harbour area, who
were redirected to Fitzroy Centennial PS in September 2006 following the
closure of Fitzroy Harbour PS in June 2006.
Originally constructed in 1967, Canada's Centennial Year, Fitzroy Centennial P.S. has received a number of additions and renovations, and includes the full range of specialized facilities to support Grade 7 and 8 programs. The school has a well-equipped playground, and also makes use of community recreation facilities a short walk away at the Kinburn Community Centre.
Students who complete Grade 3 at Fitzroy Centennial Public School may choose to enter the Middle French Immersion program at Stonecrest Elementary School, Woodlawn, beginning in Grade 4. At Grade 7, students have the choice of continuing in the regular English program or entering the Late French Immersion program. On completion of Grade 8 at Fitzroy Centennial, students are directed to West Carleton S.S. in Dunrobin for Grades 9 through 12 English and French Immersion programs. Students living closer to Arnprior District H.S. than to West Carleton S.S. have the option of attending high school in Arnprior. Students entering vocational programs attend Sir Guy Carleton S.S. in Nepean. Special education students who have been identified as gifted may choose to attend Bell H.S. in Nepean, the closest of six secondary gifted centres.
