OCDSB Logo © OCDSB 2000 The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is the National Capital's English public school board, and the largest of four district school boards serving Ottawa-Carleton with educational programs for children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 as well as adult and continuing education programs.

The OCDSB serves approximately 70,000 regular day students spread across 2,760 square kilometres comprising the former municipalities of Cumberland, Gloucester, Goulbourn, Kanata, Nepean, Osgoode, Ottawa, Rideau, Rockcliffe Park, Vanier and West Carleton, amalgamated into the new City of Ottawa in January 2001.

The OCDSB operates 121 elementary schools (including two special education centres), 25 secondary schools (including two vocational schools and one adult high school) and 4 secondary alternate sites.

Educational programs follow the Ontario curriculum, and have been developed to meet a wide range of student needs and interests. In addition to the regular English program with Core French starting in Junior Kindergarten, there are three French immersion programs beginning at Senior Kindergarten, Grade 4 or Grade 7. Several elementary schools offer alternative program delivery. All schools deliver special education programming to students identified as having special education needs; some schools include highly specialized classes for specific special education programs. English-as-a-second-language programs are offered in many schools where needed. At the secondary level, one school offers an intensive Fine Arts program; another offers the International Baccalaureate program.

The Continuing Education department serves about 25,000 area residents with credit and interest courses, adult literacy and English-as-a-second- language programs at specific school sites across the Ottawa-Carleton area.

The OCDSB is governed by 12 trustees, elected by eligible voters in 12 trustee electoral zones.  Effective with the 2006 municipal elections, the term of office will be four years, from December 2006 to November 2010.  The Board annually elects one of its members to serve as Chair of the Board, and meets twice monthly through most of the year.  All meetings of the Board and its committees are open to the public, with the exception that specific topics may, in accordance with the Education Act, be discussed in camera.
