Located in the Crossing Bridge area of Stittsville adjacent to the community park, A. Lorne Cassidy is a public elementary school offering regular English and Early French Immersion programs from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. Students in the regular English program are mainly drawn from Stittsville west of Main Street. The attendance boundary for the Early French Immersion program, which begins at Senior Kindergarten, extends farther to take in the western part of rural Goulbourn including Munster and Ashton.  The Junior Kindergarten year is the same for all students, whether English program or Early French Immersion program.

Designed with the assistance of a User Committee that included experienced school staff, parents and community representatives, the school provides excellent facilities for its students at all grade levels, including a well-used computer network and Media Resource Centre.  A large bustling school, A. Lorne Cassidy is well supported by an active school council and many parent volunteers.  It has received recognition for its ethnocultural equity initiatives, and also for its implementation of technology in the curriculum.

A. Lorne Cassidy ES operates on a Balanced School Day schedule for Grades 1 to 8.  The students' day is organized into three larger blocks of uninterrupted instructional time, with two breaks for nutrition and recess (in late morning and early afternoon).  The Balanced School Day schedule provides more uninterrupted learning time for students and better opportunities for extracurricular activities during the two longer breaks.

Students from A. Lorne Cassidy may choose to enter the Middle French Immersion program at Katimavik E.S. in Kanata at Grade 4.  Students who are currently in Grades 5 and 6 at A. Lorne Cassidy may also choose to enter the Late French Immersion program at Goulbourn M.S. when they reach Grade 7; the Late French Immersion program is being phased out across the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, but this option is being kept open for those students who had already passed the opportunity for Middle French Immersion.

On completion of Grade 8, students are directed to South Carleton H.S. in Richmond for Grades 9 through 12 English and French Immersion programs.  A new public high school for Stittsville has been identified as an OCDSB priority for new school construction, but the timing of this project will depend on the availability of funding.  Students entering vocational programs attend Sir Guy Carleton S.S. in Nepean. Special education students who have been identified as gifted may choose to attend Bell H.S. in Nepean, the closest of six secondary gifted centres.
