(bottom) This species also photographed on 29 June 2000, on 15 and 17
July 2000, on 28 June 2001, and on 6, 7, 10, 12 and 14 July 2002. Haploa
lecontei shows the most variation of any Haploa species observed
at my location. Unfortunately, if one looks at five different
illustrations of this species on the Internet, or in my two main reference
books, no two illustrations are the same. Since my references indicate
this is a highly variable species, ranging to almost entirely white, I
decided to include as many variations here as I had observed. Because
some versions of H. lecontei strongly resemble H. confusa, it
is entirely possible that one or two of my identifications are incorrect, in
which case please let me know. Also, if some of the variations
included here are actually variants of other Haploa species, I would
appreciate knowing. |
